Get to know a Farmer's Market...

This post is for those of you that live in Atlanta and only think of "farmers markets" as being those high-end open air stalls in the parks.  This is not that kind of market.  This is where I go to get low-cost fresh produce, spices, and nicely prepared meats, dairy, and bakery items.

If you live within a 20 mile radius of this market, you've probably heard about it but maybe never visited.  Please go.  Just check it out.  It will change the way you grocery shop from here on out.

Examples of Savings...
Last week's shopping at the Farmers Market vs. this week's weekly circular from Kroger:

Kroger Farmers Market
Grapes 1.48/lb 1.18/lb
Avocados 10/$10 .69 or .89 each depending on size
Assorted Spices 1.99/4oz. .50-1.50/4oz. depending on the spice
Red Bell Pepper 3.99/lb 1.49/lb
Green Bell Pepper $1.99/lb 1.29/lb

How to Get There:

Address: Google it.
3000 E. Ponce de Leon Ave 30030

From the Website:
YDFM is located at the intersection of E. Ponce De Leon Avenue and Laredo Drive, 2 miles inside of I-285 off of Exit 40 (E. Ponce De Leon).
The Decatur E7 Marta Station is also located nearby.

From me: There are a few other transit options that I have noted below, use Google Maps to get a more detailed idea of the walking area around the Market.
The 36 bus (going East) has a stop right by the market at 2995 Ponce.
The 75 bus to Tucker has a stop at the corner of  DeKalb Industrial and Arcadia (about a 5 min. walk)
The 8 bus towards Avondale stops at Clarendon @ Chestnut (about a 5 min.walk)
Avondale Rail Station is about a 15 min. walk from the Market and is closer than taking the Decatur Station route that the Market is apparently pushing.

TIPS:
They only take cash, check, and debit card.
NO CREDIT CARDS.
Hours: 9am-9pm
Large bags have to be checked <-- No longer true!  If it can lay flat in your cart, you can keep it with you!
Extensive Recycling/Composting Center on the side by the Entrance/Exit
